ZOAHARIAN.COM – Jakarta-Bandung Fast Train or Whoosh is now not only the choice of Indonesian people. This high-speed mode of transportation is increasingly popular with foreign tourists, especially tourists from Malaysia.
Data from PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia China (KCIC) records that since Whoosh started operating until August 2026, as many as 403,626 passengers from Malaysia have used the fast train service.
This figure is the largest compared to tourists from other countries. Passengers from Malaysia account for around 42.8 percent of the total 944,087 foreign passengers who have used Whoosh since the service began operating.
KCIC General Manager Corporate Secretary Eva Chairunisa said the high number of Malaysian tourists shows that Whoosh is starting to become part of their travel experience while in Indonesia.
According to him, the existence of Whoosh makes it easier for tourists to combine trips to Jakarta, Bandung and a number of tourist destinations in West Java in one series of trips.
"Malaysian tourists are the largest number of Whoosh users among foreign nationals. The presence of Whoosh makes the Jakarta-Bandung trip faster and more comfortable so that tourists can visit more destinations in a limited time," said Eva in her statement, Sunday (13/9/2026).
105 Thousand Malaysian Tourists Ride Whoosh Throughout 2026
Interest from Malaysian tourists can also be seen throughout 2026. In the period January to August 2026 alone, KCIC recorded 105,095 passengers from Malaysia using Whoosh.
This number is equivalent to around 40 percent of the total 262,369 foreign passengers who used Whoosh in the same period.
This trend will even continue into September 2026. Based on temporary sales data in early September, around 2,300 tickets have been purchased by Malaysian tourists, with an average of 1,150 tickets per day.
This increasing interest cannot be separated from collaboration between travel agencies in Malaysia and tourism industry players in Jakarta and Bandung.
KCIC also continues to open opportunities for collaboration with various travel agencies to present tour packages that combine travel using Whoosh with tourist destinations, hotels and various other supporting services.
Malaysian Tourists Like Bandung Culinary and West Java Nature Tourism
To strengthen the Malaysian tourist market, KCIC also carries out direct promotions to neighboring countries. One of them is through participation in the MATTA Fair in Kuala Lumpur and a sales mission in Penang.
In this activity, KCIC introduced the Whoosh service, how to buy tickets, Jakarta-Bandung connectivity and opportunities for travel package collaboration with Malaysian tourism industry players.
From the KCIC team's interactions during promotional activities, tourists who are interested in using Whoosh come from various segments, ranging from solo travelers, families to small groups.
Some tourists also choose to use tour packages that have been prepared by travel agents.
Their travel patterns are quite diverse. Some spend two days in Jakarta then one day in Bandung. There are also those who choose the opposite. Travel duration generally ranges from four days and three nights to five days and four nights.
Bandung is one of the favorite destinations for Malaysian tourists, especially for culinary hunting and shopping. While in Jakarta, they enjoy a lot of urban tourism.
The natural tourist areas of West Java such as Lembang and Ciwidey are also an option.
For some tourists, traveling using Whoosh is not just a matter of moving from Jakarta to Bandung. The fast train is starting to become part of the tourist experience they want to experience when visiting Indonesia.
Go Show Tickets Are Still an Option
Even though interest in Whoosh continues to increase, some Malaysian tourists still choose to buy tickets directly or go to the show.
The considerations relate to flight schedules and traffic conditions at the airport. Tourists tend to wait for a certain arrival time before determining their departure using Whoosh.
For this reason, KCIC continues to strengthen education regarding ticket purchases and encourages tourists to plan their trips through official channels.
Whoosh tickets can be purchased via the Whoosh application, website ticket.kcic.co.id, counters and Ticket Vending Machines at stations, Access by KAI, Livin' by Mandiri, BRImo, wondr by BNI, Tiket.com, Traveloka and Trip.com.
With increasingly strong Jakarta-Bandung connectivity, Whoosh now has the potential to become one of the new drivers of West Java tourism, especially in attracting more Malaysian tourists to explore Bandung and various destinations around it.
