ZOAHARIAN.COM – Indonesia was recorded as being hit by three earthquakes with quite large strength in one day on Saturday, August 15 2026. The three earthquakes occurred in different areas, starting from East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), North Sumatra, to Central Sulawesi.

The first earthquake occurred on Saturday morning at 04.58 WIB. An earthquake measuring 7.7 magnitude shook an area around 30 kilometers northeast of Mbay, Nagekeo Regency, NTT.

The magnitude of the earthquake caused the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) to issue a tsunami early warning for a number of areas, especially in NTT and the Selayar Islands, South Sulawesi.

The tsunami early warning was later declared over. However, BMKG reported a rise in sea levels or waves that hit a number of coastal areas after the earthquake.

The second earthquake occurred on Saturday afternoon at 17.54 WIB. This time, an earthquake measuring 6.4 magnitude rocked Simalungun Regency, North Sumatra.

Based on BMKG information, the epicenter of the earthquake was at coordinates 2.97 North Latitude and 98.95 East Longitude with a depth of 163 kilometers.

The epicenter of the earthquake was on land so it had no potential to cause a tsunami.

Before the day had passed, another earthquake rocked Indonesia. The third earthquake occurred on Saturday night at 23.25 WIB in the Parigi Moutong area, Central Sulawesi.

The earthquake had a strength of more than magnitude 6.2. The epicenter is at coordinates 0.25 North Latitude and 120.22 East Longitude, or about 82 kilometers southwest of Parigi Moutong.

The earthquake was at a depth of 44 kilometers and based on BMKG information there was no potential for a tsunami.

The series of earthquakes with large strength that occurred in three different areas shows high seismic activity in a number of regions in Indonesia throughout Saturday, August 15 2026.

People in the affected areas are advised to remain calm, follow official information from the BMKG and local government, and not easily believe information that has not been verified.
