ZOAHARIAN.COM – A Forestry Police (Polhut) officer at Gunung Gede Pangrango National Park (TNGGP) is suspected of being the victim of abuse by a number of unscrupulous climbers. Not only that, state facilities in the form of guard huts on the Mount Putri climbing route were also reported to have been damaged.

This incident was reported by the Gunung Gede Pangrango National Park Center (TNGGP) via its official Instagram account @bbtn_gn_gedepangrango on Thursday (10/9/2026).

The incident began on Monday (7/9/2026), when PTN Gunung Putri Resort officers were carrying out surveillance on the climbing route. While on duty, officers found a number of climbers who were suspected of entering the area without complying with permit requirements.

In fact, climbing activities in the TNGGP area have still been closed since August 31 2026. This closure was carried out as an anticipatory measure against potential forest and land fires (karhutla).

The officers then gave a warning and handled the climbers according to their duties and authority.

However, the problem continued until Tuesday (8/9/2026). At around 13.54 WIB, a forest police officer on duty at the PTN Gunung Putri Resort allegedly experienced violence by unscrupulous climbers.

In this incident, the guard hut used as a SIMAKSI checkpoint on the Mount Putri climbing route was also damaged.

"Furthermore, on Tuesday, September 8 2026 at around 13.54 WIB, there was a criminal act of violence against one of the Forestry Police officers and damage to the Guard Lodge," wrote TNGGP, quoted Friday (11/9/2026).

As a result of this incident, the victim suffered injuries to the face and nose. The officer was then taken to Cimacan Regional Hospital, Cianjur Regency, to receive medical treatment and further examination, including a post-mortem.

Apart from the victims, the facilities at the scene of the incident were also checked. Initial inspection results found a number of damages, including broken window glass and damaged chairs.

TNGGP Immediately Reported to the Police

The TNGGP Center immediately coordinated with law enforcement officials after the incident. The case was then reported to the Pacet Sector Police, Cianjur Regency.

Police officers together with related parties then inspect the crime scene (TKP), collect evidence and documentation, and carry out handling in accordance with applicable legal provisions.

Head of the TNGGP Center, Sadtata Noor Adirahmanta, S.Hut., M.T., regretted the alleged violence against officers who were carrying out state duties.

According to him, all officers in the field in carrying out their duties are still guided by the provisions of laws and regulations and prioritize service and safety for visitors to conservation areas.

"We deeply regret the alleged acts of violence against officers carrying out state duties as well as damage to state facilities," said Sadtata.

He emphasized that TNGGP handed over the legal process to the authorities and would support the investigation process based on the evidence and facts found.

"We hand over the process of handling the legal aspects to the authorities and will fully support the further examination and handling process in accordance with existing evidence and facts," he said.

Climbing Still Closed

The TNGGP Center again reminds all parties not to force themselves to enter the national park area without following the applicable rules.

This appeal is addressed not only to prospective climbers, but also basecamp managers, guides, porters and the public.

Every person who wishes to enter the TNGGP area is required to comply with the climbing permit requirements according to established procedures.

The closure of climbing routes which is still in effect is also part of efforts to maintain visitor safety while anticipating the threat of forest and land fires in conservation areas.
