ZOAHARIAN.COM - Deep grief enveloped the Grangetown area after a house fire on Wednesday claimed the lives of Natalie McDonald (34) and her niece, Valentina Foster (7). This tragedy was part of a series of heartbreaking events that in a few days killed a total of nine people.

The house fire occurred just days after the fatal crash on South Bank, near Middlesbrough, on Saturday. The crash killed seven people, including two Cleveland Police officers,PC Matthew Blades and PC Tom Clough, who died in the line of duty.

In the midst of grief that has not subsided, the authorities are now strengthening investigations into these two major incidents.

Leader of Redcar and Cleveland Council,Alec Brown, revealed more than 200 additional police personnel had been deployed to assist with the investigation. They come from various units, from detectives, armed officers, sniffer dog units to community police.

"More than 200 additional police officers from forces across the country are here and on the way, from detectives to armed response," Brown said in an update on social media.

Cleveland police said they had support from a number of neighboring police departments. The number of personnel involved is said to be subject to change according to the needs of the investigation.

Support also came from theNational Crime Agency (NCA) as well as Northumbria, Durham, Humberside, North Yorkshire, South Yorkshire and West Yorkshire police.

Police Grieve, Again Faced with Tragedy

The magnitude of the deployment of officers cannot be separated from the series of events that occurred in the near future.

Brown said Cleveland officers were still mourning the loss of two of their colleagues in the crash on South Bank. However, just a few days later, they were again on the scene to respond to a fatal fire in Grangetown.

"Yesterday we had a terrible house fire in Grangetown... and within hours there were two arrests," Brown told the BBC.

He described the situation as very difficult for the officers who previously lost two colleagues while on duty.

The deaths of Natalie McDonald and Valentina Foster add to the sadness of the local community. A 34 year old woman and a seven year old girl were victims of the house fire which is now an important part of the authorities' investigation.

More than 200 Personnel Deployed

Brown stressed that the scale of police support shows how serious the ongoing investigation is.

He said the personnel deployed came from various areas of the police and were brought in from a number of areas to assist local officers.

The Prime Minister also previously said that all necessary support would be provided to help uncover what really happened in this series of tragedies.

In the midst of the investigation, public attention is now focused on the authorities' efforts to fully uncover the causes and series of events that killed nine people in several days.
