M 5.9 Earthquake Rocks Seribu Islands, Depth Reaches 376 Kilometers

ZOAHARIAN.COM – An earthquake measuring magnitude (M) 5.9 rocked the Thousand Islands area, Jakarta, on Saturday (12/9/2026) early in the morning. The earthquake was recorded as having a depth of 376 kilometers.

Based on information submitted by the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) via account X, the earthquake occurred at 04.23 WIB.

The epicenter of the earthquake was at coordinates 5.81 South Latitude and 106.56 East Longitude. The location is said to be around 6 kilometers east of the Thousand Islands, Jakarta.

"Earthquake Info Earthquake Mag: 5.9," wrote BMKG in its statement.

With a depth of 376 kilometers, this earthquake is classified as a deep earthquake. BMKG's preliminary information also confirms that the data submitted is still subject to change.

BMKG reminded that earthquake information released at an early stage prioritizes speed of delivery to the public. Therefore, the results of data processing are not completely stable.
