ZOAHARIAN.COM - The United States (US) has again increased pressure on Iran by launching a series of new economic sanctions. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent called the move “the largest financial attack ever” against Iran's economic network.
Bessent even called this latest policy an “economic D-Day” for Iran. He emphasized that Washington would try to cut off Iran's economic relations with the international world and at the same time warned countries and entities that were still collaborating financially with Tehran.
According to Bessent, the US government is now facing Iran with two choices, namely accepting global economic isolation or returning to a normal path and opening up opportunities to rejoin the world economy.
“Iran now faces a very clear choice,” Bessent said at a press conference discussing the operation called “Operation Economic Isolation”.
Sanctions Target Five Sectors
The US Treasury Department said it had mapped the networks, facilitators and financial channels that Iran allegedly uses to evade sanctions, especially regarding oil trade.
The latest sanctions target at least five main sectors, namely:
Digital assets
Technology
Emas
Flight
Voyage
In addition, nearly60 entities, individuals and shipswere also subject to restrictive measures.
Bessent said the policy was designed to narrow the sources of income that could be used by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and the Iranian regime more broadly.
He also warned those who help Iran's economic activities not to hide behind excuses of ignorance.
According to him, countries and companies that continue to carry out transactions with Iran cannot simply claim that they are "blind" to the activities that Washington is targeting.
Trump is said to be contacting world leaders
Bessent did not specifically mention which countries could potentially be affected if they continued to cooperate with Iran.
However, he said President Donald Trump would contact a number of world leaders directly to ask them to stop economic interactions with the Iranian government.
This step shows that US pressure is not only directed at Iran, but also at the international economic network that is thought to help Tehran survive the pressure of sanctions.
Iran Prepares Resistance Strategy
The Iranian government responded to this pressure with a defiant attitude. Iran's Economy Minister Ali Madanizadeh said Tehran had prepared plans for two years to deal with new sanctions.
Iran believes this strategy could cause Washington to fail again in its efforts to suppress the country's economy.
This economic confrontation occurs when the Iran conflict increasingly impacts the world energy market. Tensions in the region have pushed up global oil prices and raised concerns about energy supplies.
Strait of Hormuz Becomes Hot Spot
Iran also warned ships passing through the area not to pass through the Strait of Hormuz without permission.
The strait between Iran and Oman is one of the most strategic energy routes in the world. Most of the world's oil and gas trade usually passes through this narrow channel.
Disruptions to shipping in the Strait of Hormuz have the potential to put additional pressure on global oil prices and increase risks to the economies of countries that depend on energy imports.
With Washington's latest sanctions and threats of retaliation from Tehran, the Iran conflict is now not just a security and geopolitical issue. The fight has also developed into an economic war that has the potential to shake the world energy market
