ZOAHARIAN.COM – The spread of volcanic ash due to the activity of Mount Anak Krakatau has begun to reach a number of areas in Subang Regency, West Java. Volcanic ash was reportedly carried by the wind to the southern Subang area.

The areas said to be affected include Ciater, Sagalaherang, Serangpanjang and Jalancagak sub-districts.

These conditions have prompted the Subang Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) to increase monitoring of the development of volcanic ash distribution which is influenced by wind direction and speed.

Subang Regency BPBD Secretary, A. Sudrajat, said that people in the affected areas were asked to increase their vigilance, especially regarding potential health problems due to exposure to volcanic ash.

"We urge the public to increase awareness of volcanic ash carried by the wind," said A. Sudrajat, Monday (7/9/2026).

Mount Anak Krakatau's activities are still ongoing. Based on information from the Geological Agency, the volcano still has Level III or Alert status.

The Alert Status has been in effect since 2 July 2026, in line with the increasing eruption activity of Mount Anak Krakatau.

The distribution of volcanic ash is not always in the same area. Atmospheric conditions, especially wind direction and speed, can cause volcanic material to be carried to areas quite far from the eruption center.

Apart from Subang, the distribution of ash was also reported to have reached a number of areas in Banten, West Java, DKI Jakarta, Lampung and Bengkulu.

Residents are asked to wear masks

BPBD Subang Regency urges people who are in the ash distribution path to usemasks when doing outdoor activities.

Residents are also advised to use eye protection and reduce activities outside the home if the ash concentration becomes thicker.

Flying volcanic ash can also interfere with visibility. Therefore, the public is asked to be more careful when driving, especially if the road conditions begin to close or become filled with ash material.

If ash starts to enter residential areas, residents are advised to closedoors, windows and ventilationto minimize the entry of ash into the house.

Meanwhile, when cleaning up the ash, people are asked to do it slowly and carefully so that the material does not fly back into the air and is inhaled.

BPBD asks the public not to panic, but to continue to increase vigilance and follow developments in information from official institutions such as BPBD, BMKG, and the Geological Agency.

"The important thing is that people remain calm, increase their vigilance and follow official information regarding developments in the distribution of volcanic ash," said A. Sudrajat.

Under these conditions, residents inCiater, Sagalaherang, Serangpanjang and Jalancagakare asked not to ignore exposure to volcanic ash.

If after being exposed to ash, residents experience respiratory problems, coughing, shortness of breath or eye irritation, they are advised to immediately get an examination at the nearest health facility.
